I have always cycled, not seriously, and usually as a way to get to and from work. in 2017 however I started cycling a bit more seriously in order to get fit and loose weight. Although I am fitter I havn't lost that much weight! I will never be a racer or a Grimper, but I do enjoy getting out and about on two wheels.
How many bikes do you need? The answer most cyclists will give is N+1 where N is the current number of bikes you currently own. I have tried my best to keep to the formulea, but alas the Tricross is no more.
The oldest bike I have is a Specialised Rockhopper a hardtail mountain bike, which a couple of years ago I put on a 1x drive train. 34 tooth chain ring and an 11-46 cassette. Not much i can't get up on this setup.
My Brompton doesn't see much action these days, just the occasional trip to the shops, but it was used every day for a frew years riding between Wembley Station and Hendon on my commute.
I had a specialised Tricross which served as my road bike for many years until the aluminium frames started to weaken (years of neglect), of course, taking it for a swim near Aylesbury probably didn't help.
At the start of 2020 I bought a Trek Domane SL7 and a Wahoo Kickr Bike, both of which arrived in April - Perfect timing. The Domane was the first bike I had ridden with electronic shifting, and it makes such a difference. With 50-34 chainrings and an 11-34 cassette, it is meets my needs for the type of riding I do.
With the Kickr Bike I soon became an avid Zwifter, and looked forward to my lunchtime rided with the Herd's regular irregulars. The addition of the Wahoo Headwnd fan means I can link the fan speed to my HR, so the more effort i put in the faster the fan thus keeping me cooler.
In 2022 with a few backpacking trips on the horizon I bought a Trek Checkpoint SL6 Etap. Another bike with electronic shifting, it is different to operate to the Shiamano Di2, but you soon get used to how it works. This has a 1x drive train with a 40 tooth chain ring and a 12 speed 10-44 cassette. This is the bike I will use for bikepacking and for riding during the winter months.
